Fascinating. Thanks Dave. :D

I started watching with the intent to just skim over it and ended up watching the whole video.

Like Pat, I was just going to  glance at it but watched the whole thing.  That is a seriously clever design and even when it's no longer being used needs to be preserved to some degree for its historical value.

Thanks for putting this out for us, Dave.

The term cable is often used interchangeably with wire rope. However, in general, wire rope refers to diameters larger than 3/8 inch.

John Roebling, the designer of suspension bridges (Cincinnati and Brooklyn) founded Roebling Wire Rope Company which made the cables for the Brooklyn Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge and more.

How many buckets are on that at any one time?  I lost count at a dozen.

46 was my count. There should be 10 to 11 tonnes of ore transiting the at any one time.

If my calculation are correct somewhere between 33 and 37 tonnes of material are moved from the mine to the plant in an 8 hour shift.

Must be a real dog and pony show to replace the cable.

Maybe do it like the Track Toads do it, break it, splice on the new and use the old to pull the new one on.  A job of work no matter how you do it.
