Subdeacon Joe
Airman Snuffy is at times an instructional figure, showing young recruits how to do things. At other times, he's a cautionary tale, illustrating the potential dangers of making poor decisions while wearing the uniform. The real Airman Snuffy, Maynard Smith, was both of those things and more; when Smith was notified that he was awarded the Medal of Honor, he was on KP duty as a punishment. Nothing could be more illustrative of his military career.
Abilene Slim SASS 81783
I read about him in this book that I bought back in high school. Still have the book and it’s still an excellent read. https://www.thriftbooks.com/w/flying-fortress-the-illustrated-biography-of-the-b-17s-and-the-men-who-flew-them/8963971/item/11194628/?gclid=EAIaIQobChMI1oDxpvDZ8QIVZAnnCh2iaQBKEAQYAyABEgKBMPD_BwE#idiq=11194628&edition=8240191
