Trigger Mike
Could you fire 45 auto rim in a 45 colt revolver?
Chantry
No, apparently the rim on the 45 Auto Rim is too thick compared to a 45 Colt and the cylinder will not rotate
Three Foot Johnson
Not without modifications to either the case rim or the cylinder. Before the C45S, I used to thin the rim of .45 AR cases to use in .45 Colt by chucking each case in a lathe with a mandrel in the case to keep from crushing it, and then using a hacksaw blade held flat against the case and pushed against the rim to thin the rim from the front side. Time consuming, but it works.
Gateway Kid SASS# 70038 Life
Wouldn't it be easier to just buy 45 colt brass to shoot in a 45 colt gun? Regards Gateway Kid
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
No, if you modify the cylinder you have ruined any resale value as the .45 Auto Rim is basically obsolete and most people have never heard of it and it will no longer shoot .45 Colt. Why would anyone waste the time to modify each individual case when .45 Colt and .45 Cowboy Special are readily available?
Three Foot Johnson
C45S wasn't available years ago when I started doing the case mod. I found 2 bags of 50 in the basement a few months ago, and figured I'd add them to my supply of C45S. I finished 50 of them, then @Jeb Stuart #65654 was looking for some, so I gave him the other bag. Forty Rod SASS 3935
I still have about 150 rounds of .45AR ammo (have had it for over forty years) and am looking for a decently priced S&W 1917 in good shape.
