Hearing Protection

Buckshot Bear

Recommended Posts

G'day all, after some recommendations for inner ear hearing protection instead of over the head ear defenders that I've always used, but can't with a cowboy hat on.

I've lost a lot of hearing over 5 and a bit decades listening to gunfire and don't want it to get any worse.

Thanks, I've never used inner ear protection before (besides doubling up with them and ear defenders) is the protection good with these?

I've used the below for about 20 years and they offer 33db noise reduction

I highly recommend going to a dedicated audiologist and getting a custom set made.  They'll cost you more but the perfect fit provides better protection and is also MUCH more comfortable.

Thanks, there's someone down here that travels around the shooting ranges and does moulded ones but he's only a backyarder.

I use these at matches and have been very pleased with them. Very comfortable and while not as good as my over the head electronics to hear normal conversations, they do a good job on our shotgun/rifle/handgun noise.

Ask for references You'll soon find out if they know what they're doing or not. Making them is not rocket science.

I had mine made by Scarlet Darling at a match. They are so much more comfortable than the roll up foam and easier to get properly inserted. Attenuation of gunfire is as good as if not better than any of the alternatives.

You will not regret the extra expense.

I had to get the custom molded one, because basically nothing else worked.  Was going through all the basic foam or ribbed ear plugs like crazy.   Currently have three sets.  Like $40 a set.  Fit good.  I need the beeper up close otherwise I won't hear it when wearing them.

I just got a replacement made while here at EOT.  (Lost the right one sometime in the past 30 or so years....)  Go on-line to https://earinc.com/ and look up "I Need a Provider", you should be directed to one of their specialists in your area.
