Alpo
I heard that it had something to do with a shipload of Hellmann's, and an iceberg in the fog off the coast of Acapulco. Sinko da mayo.

Utah Bob #35998
The 5th is celebrated in Puebla. Like Lexington and Concord are celebrated in Boston. Snakejaw_Joe
I know its a fake holiday, but my friend in Queretaro still has a drink with me on facetime for traditions sake. Here's a cocktail for today, or any day really, goes well with a homemade tortilla and carnitas: The Oaxacan Wasp 1.5oz Mezcal (a smokey variety) 1 oz honey simple syrup (dissolve honey in hot water 1:1 ratio) 2 slices jalapeno muddle the jalapeno in the Mezcal, add the honey syrup and ice. Garnish with cilantro.
Utah Bob #35998
It’s not a fake holiday. It’s just a very localized holiday
Sedalia Dave
When I as stationed in Rota Spain there were 4 kinds of holidays; local, regional, national, and just because. The just because holidays were observed just because 3 other holidays fell on that week and there was no point in working any more that week because everyone was tired from all the celebrating. Birdgun Quail, SASS #63663
Thanks, Bob. I know you like poems. So on this 200th Anniversary... "They say those years were wasted all Those years of glory in his train Our lives, our blood and limbs, they say All those we gave in vain For him ambition and throne The servitude of craven kings To rule the world, to shake it all For him those were the only things Ah well – the old light horseman turns And keeps his counsel, knowing that The jackals that the lion spurns Will one day conspire to bring him low But in his heart the memory burns As burns the ancient saber scars Still with the jingling squadrons he Goes splendid to the wars But oh, to saddle horse and ride Up with the Guard amidst the guns The wild trumpets peel our pride And hail him as he comes! But oh, to stand dress parade once more Bearskins all dripping in the rain And shout, "Long Live the Emperor" And see the little hat again" - A Fanfare for the Valiant
