If it’s not yours, leave it alone.

If you open it, close it when you are done.

and a few more I  don’t remember

Use it up.

Wear it out.

Make it do

or do without.

Family motto.

Also, my dad taught me to never stop learning.  Learn something every day even if it will never be of any use to you.

1. That's gonna leave a mark and maybe teach not to do it again.

2. Evil Kneivel is to be watched and admired, not copied.

3. Read everything that you can.

My grandpa taught  me to work  metal. My dad taught me to shoot and to weld and turn bolts. My grandma taught me the basics of cooking and manners. I learned work ethic and honesty from my family.

My dad taught me how to box and what justice was. He taught me loyalty too.

My mom and my grannies taught me family!

The rest just kinda’ fell into place.

grandparents:

1) the loudest person in the room will never say anything of value

2) waste no part of an animal. if you can't eat it or use it, don't kill it.

3) patience... plant a seed today, enjoy the fruit in 5 years

4) times are only bad or hard if you see them that way

parents:

1) Jesus would rather someone be a kind atheist than an unkind christian

2) if the majority aren't smart, its better to stand with the minority

3) wear your heritage as a badge of honor

4) focus, dammit!

One grandpa passed long before I was born. The only thing I remember from the other was, "If you pull a dog's tail, it's ears will fall off".

My Grandfather always said "Work just a bit harder than the guy next to you to be successful".

My Dad taught me how to work and do many things from painting, remodeling, carpentry, roofing, plumbing, masonry, etc. He was a general contractor. He also taught me mechanics and how to fish. He was a very mean man and was very abusive.

My Mom taught me how to appreciate the little things in life. She taught me to be kind to others and to animals.

Between them both I learned how to be good and bad.

My “Nanny”, paternal grandmother, taught me a lot. She was very wise and she loved me dearly as I loved her. She was my favorite person.
She taught me not to wish my life away and to be realistic in life. She taught me to always look at the good and the bad and if the good outweighed the bad in people or situations then overall that person or the situation was good. Bad people or bad situations must be corrected or abandoned as soon as it’s obvious it can’t be corrected.

My maternal grandmother “Grandma” was a very staunchly religious woman. If it wasn’t in the Bible then it wasn’t worth knowing about. A very stubborn woman, but she loved me in her way. She taught me not to worry about what other people think and to strive to do right.

If I listed all I learned from my parents and grandparents I could write a book. I listed the highlights.

Oh, I never knew my maternal grandfather. My paternal grandfather was a mean old alcoholic who I only interacted with a few times. From him I learned why my Dad was so mean, which helped me to be forgiving to my Dad when he was being mean.

My dad told me that in this country all you have to do is obey the law, and obey a few simple social rules, and then you can do anything you want.  But if you don't, you'll always be under somebody's thumb or find obstacles always in your way.

I followed the advice and found he was right.

When traveling off the road on the farm: If the gates open, leave it open- If the gates closed then close it.

Work with your head and not your back.
