Whiskey Hicks
There’s a 3.5 or 4 inch barreled Colt Police Positive at a LGS chambered in .32-20. They allow layaway, and it’s only $500 with great conditions. If I were to consider getting this, will I have fun with it and will I have a hard time getting ammo? Just answer from your personal experience. I welcome all input.
Dantankerous
Buffaloarms.com is where I would check for ammo. It sounds like a fun little piece but I would definitely get an opinion from a gunsmith on the gun's age versus reliability and safely using it. If I remember correctly those guns were made for a number of years and is probably made with more modern steel but don't just take the word of some guy you don't know on the Internet. LawMan Mark, SASS #57095L
I picked up a Smith & Wesson 32-20 Hand Ejector, model of 1905, 1st change recently. I had ask for and purchase dies and brass from two separate individuals on the wire. The dies were at "Covid" pricing, as was the brass. My local bullet provider was able to cast me a box of 500 bullets. All this to say, I have never seen a box of factory 32-20 ammo. What I've shot, I loaded myself. Rye Miles #13621
.32-20 is a rare bird especially now, Buffalo Arms is one place as was mentioned by Dantakerous.
Sedalia Dave
Starline occasionally does runs of the brass. You'll just have to have patience. Dies will the the hard part.
Pat Riot
Several websites will allow back orders for 32-20 brass. I would bet Bear creek Supply has bullets. As for the Colt? I have no input except I would be tempted. I found these dies on Amazon...get ready for sticker shock! Forty Rod SASS 3935
Check Reed's Ammunition in Oklahoma. He has all sorts of bastard and orphaned ammunition, or can likely find it for you. He's pricey, but turned up and off the shelf box of 8 x 56mm Mannlicher-Schoenauer sporting rounds (custom loaded on 35 Whelen brass) for my rifle. I have two more boxes on back order. Also check the Old Western Scrounger. He has some odd ball calibers. too.
Larsen E. Pettifogger, SASS #32933
Loaded ammo is still factory loaded. Brass, bullets and dies are all readily available. Like almost everything else they are in short supply right now. Some examples. https://winchester.com/Products/Ammunition/Rifle/Super-X/X32201 https://www.starlinebrass.com/32-20-brass https://www.snscasting.com/32-100-gr-rnfp/ https://www.midwayusa.com/product/1011214925
