El CupAJoe
Hey All, I was wondering if something along these lines would be permitted in the Optical Category of long range side matches, or if it would have to compete in an open category. It obviously doesn't fit in lever action or single shot. Optical just seems to state that the gun must comply with lever action rules if it's a lever action and single shot rules if it's a single shot. if you think there would be a difference in how these would be treated if they were Colt Root style (Shown Above, rifle powder capacity and barrel length), a removable stocked Walker/Dragoon (almost rifle powder capacity with a shorter barrel) a removable stocked 1860 or 1858 (pistol powder capacity and barrel length) or a Remington Revolving carbine replica ( pistol powder capacity and rifle barrel length). Let me know your thoughts. Perhaps there were discussions on this in the past?
El CupAJoe
Could it be considered a Buffalo single shot if you only capped one chamber at a time
PaleWolf Brunelle, #2495L
Quote - Open Category (may be used at the match director’s option to include those firearms not covered by other official Long Range Categories). SHB p.
H. K. Uriah, SASS #74619
I was gonna say it looks like "open" to me, but PaleWolf has already said so, and that's definitive. But... I've never been to a big shoot that actually HAD an open category. Just sayin'
Sedalia Dave
One really important thing to keep in mind is how well the front of the cylinder seals to the barrel. Those escaping gasses are on the hot side and can cause some serious powder burns on any appendages that happen to cross that line.
