Federal Ammo with Hornady Bullet.

Recommended Posts

At Sportsman's Warehouse, I saw Federal selling the Hornady bullet in .308 Win and 7mm Mag.

But, YIKES!!  $99.99 for a box of ten!

Interesting bullet, but would you pay almost $10.00 a round?

Screw that.

Just remember......just about ANY commercial ammo of your caliber with a reasonably acceptable slug and rifle will do what you need it to do.  As long as you have a decent rifle anyway.

If necessary, buy a box of brass (usually 20?), and have the guy at the gun shoo load them (primer, powder and bullet) for you.  You’ll probably wind up with extra components for future use.  $10.00 each is nonsense.

The most determining factor is YOU, the shooter.  You could buy $20-each ammo, and if you are a poor marksman.....(as they say on the Continent), “C’est la vie”.

Interesting that it only comes in a box of 10.
Kind of like those short boxes of defense ammo coming in 25 rounds and occasionally 20 rounds. Annoying!

Since Vortex made it 4 years ago, it'll probably be funny again in another year.

Here in the Saloon, on this date 4 years ago, I got excellent advice for degaussing my revolver's cylinder.

"I recently bought some dummy rounds for dry firing. I have done a lot of dry firing my S&W Combat Magnum and found that my cylinder was sometimes easy to open, other times a little difficult. Then I noted that the tools were sticking to the cylinder. It has turned out that the cylinder has become magnetized and depending on the polarity the cylinder was at times difficult to rotate or open. I would like to degauss the cylinder. How is the best way to degauss a revolver?"

For the average shooter I don't see much practical use.

On the other hand if I was going to spend thousands of dollars on a once in a lifetime hunt, then another $100.00 isn't really going to be an issue.  Two or three rounds to get the gun perfectly zeroed and the remaining seven or eight rounds for the animal.
