Go West
Thanks for sharing. I was thinking the meal around the campfire in Blazing Saddles was pretty common among the cowboys of the day.

From a diet too high in protein and too low in fats and carbs. "Rabbit fever" is a disease caused by Francisella tularensis.

Subdeacon Joe
I liked how he went on about the calves foot jelly, and the comment about Jell-o not being around. Wonder where he thinks the "jell" in Jell-O comes from.

Ozark Huckleberry
Funny thing is there's people who don't think twice about eating a hot dog would watch the video and think, 'Eww.'
Waxahachie Kid #17017 L
My grandmother once told me, when she was a girl, they made flour out of the mesquite beans, that grew on the mesquite trees. My grandmother also liked to eat clabber. I saw her eat that a many a time. No thank you!!! The video forgot to mention frog legs, but, like as not, in a lot of the places the cowboys worked, there may have not been a lot of ponds, or lakes, around for frog legs....or crawfish, either, for that matter. Just because those old cowboys may have smelled like a skunk, doesn't mean they had to eat one. I'd vote for a liberal socialist democrat, before I'd eat a skunk! I may be wrong, but I don't believe a skunk has a split hoof, or chews a cud.

Singin' Sue 71615
Not 'old West'...but back in the day. Papaw was born in a Tenessee Holler. Once they moved to Waxahachie, Tx...he still liked squirell hunting. During the Depression, momma said there was always meat on the table. (Something she kept true in our upbringing) Rabbit and Squirell were easy game. I still cringe when I recall her saying she and her two brothers fought over the squirell's head!!! More meat and the brain was sweet!!!
