Capt'n Rudy
Sharp looking little Gun. Quick question. Why does the barrel assembly have a different serial number than the receiver assembly? And are you reasonably sure that the weapon functions? Thank you.
Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Because the barrel came off of a different gun. Pietta cap gun parts interchange, so it is not uncommon to match barrels to different frames, or swap the grips out with Army or Navy grips. Yes, I am sure the gun functions just fine. Example: I just purchased a new Pietta 1851 Navy Buntline. I wanted the 12" barrel, and have put it on one of my competition steel frames. What am I gonna do with the left-over frame, cylinder & gripframe? Have not decided yet, but will probably add one of my spare barrels to it & sell it. The only thing I would do for the most reliable ignition, is replace the nipples with good after-market nipples like Slix or Treso, and use Remington #10 caps. While other cap/nipple combinations will work, I find that combination best. Thanks --Dawg
Oldhorsetrader
Is there a conversion out there for this gun? I know it's not purest
Brazos John
The brass frame might not be suitable for modern ammo. Other folks will offer more details, I'm sure.

Prairie Dawg, SASS #50329
Willyboy -- Sent you a PM OldHorseTrader & Brazos John -- Any 44 caliber Pietta 1860 or 1851 conversion cylinder will fit. Typically, minor hand adjustments must be made to get the indexing right. R & D and Kirst say their cylinders are not for brass-framed guns, because some idiot will use full-house .45 loads, and shortly destroy the gun. That being said, I know several pards who use them with light 45 Cowboy Special loads. They understand the limitations of brass-framed guns. --Dawg
