This is living!

Just spent the weekend with friends about a mile high in the Cherokee National Forest. This may not sound like much to our Colorado friends, but here in East Tennessee it is the mountaintop.

The temperatures around 6:30 last night had already dropped below freezing and our water bottles were forming ice crystals.

But we had each other, a roaring fire, and an amazing sunset.  Life is good!

You prompted a memory:

Family trip to Pigeon Forge so daughter’s dance group could compete in a national contest.  We drove through Gatlinburg, through the Smokies to Cherokee, NC, and went to a McDonald’s for supper.  All the employees were native Americans.  Coming from Colorado, I expect native Americans to have a Spanish accent, like the kids who went to school with me.  It was a shock to hear our McDonald’s host ask, “Y’all want fries with that?” in a pure southern drawl.

Yes we wanted fries.  And hearing a Cherokee talk like my wife who was raised in southern Missouri was a treat!

And now back to regular programming.
