Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 3,529
I learned two three things. 1. Apparently Winchester has come out with a new cartridge, the 6.8mm. Just what we need, another 6.something mm cartridge. 2. During WW II Japan produced a version of the M1 Garand. Haven't had time to read the articles. EDIT: 3. LSMFT Last page has an advertisement for Lucky Strikes cigarettes. Haven't seen that for a number of years. Pat Riot, SASS #13748 25,552
For the very first time I got mine two days before you. I agree. Who needs another 6.? Cartridge? The Japanese reverse engineered the crap out of pretty much everything they could get their hands on before WW2. What is the deal with The Dope Bag? That is the first thing I turn to when I get my magazine. A rifle and a scope. That’s it. The Tikka T1x rimfire and an EoTech scope that I would never even try to afford. And how about Walther’s answer to the Hi-Point C9 pistol? Yuck! Compare: Walther on top. Hi-Point below.

Yellowhouse Sam # 25171 614
Basically the new 6.8 is a slightly shorter version of the 270 WSM and rifles chambered for it have fast twist (1 in 7.5-8 depending on rifle). Thats so they can fling heavy for caliber, up to 175gr, at elk further than most people can walk in an afternoon and at paper targets even further.
Badger Mountain Charlie SASS #43172 3,529
Why do we need all of these calibers? I'm good with 30-06, 30-30, or .44 Mag. in a rifle, or .45 ACP or .44 .45 Colt, or .38 Special in a handgun. Duffield, SASS #23454 1,009
All print magazines have pretty much gone to ---- lately, due to online editions with most of the good stuff. I used to really enjoy Outdoor Life and Field and Stream when they had all the departments staffed with writers who tried to give us solid information. Now, the dog training columns and etc. are gone and the rifle columns are mostly question and answer with some smart-alec answering to liven things up. Sigh. Because at times like this, when you have no idea what you'll find in the store for loaded ammo or components, you'll be able to shoot. At least that's what I tell myself. Don't know if you saw the thread on the latest issue of Guns of the Old West, but it was the best issue of that magazine I can recall. Definitely the best since they changed ownership, possibly the best ever.

Alls I know is that it fits the hand well and has a great trigger. They've even had walther execs on the show ... you'd think the walther guys would realize it's ugly. Especially the newer generations always have to have something "new and improved". In one of my Jack O'Connor books he wrote that he had no doubt that we could get along quite well with just the .22 LR, 12 ga. and .30/06 but the gun companies would go broke and gun writers would be out of a job. Sounds like ole Jack nailed it as usual. JHC
