Dead_Head
I'm trying to help a pard who wants to use up what he has for gunpowder. He has some Unique and wants some idea of how much to load of it for these two loads: Pistol - .45 Colt, 200 grain bullets Rifle - .357 Magnum, 125 gr bullets CAS loads, not hunting loads! Abilene, SASS # 27489
Howdy Dead_Head, your title says 38 spcl but the text says .357. I loaded 4.5gr Unique with a 125gr TC bullet for a long time in 38 spcl. In the last year I dropped it to 4.1gr of Unique. Can't tell a lot of difference. It is not a mouse-fart, seems pretty mid-range to me. Good luck.
Rex M Rugers #6621
OLG should be along shortly with good advice for Unique. Abilene has a good start , something around 4 to 4.5 in 38 Spec with 125 gr. , in the neighborhood of about 7 up to 9 grs. for 200 gr. in 45 Colt. Investing in some reloading manuals would also be a good move. Rex
portugeejn
Quote Not exactly apples and apples, but when I was actively shooting and reloaded smokeless, I used 6.5 grains of Unique with a 200 grain bullet in my .44-40. Kind of a universal easy on your hands load.
Jessey Hightower
I run 4.1 gr unique under 150’s in .38. The 125’s are still in the bag so im curious what people are doing. The 4.1 groups well out of my rifle and has a nice feeling recoil in my pistols. Just my two cents
