Mr. Potato Head

Recommended Posts

Heard it on the news today. The makers of Mr. Potato Head have made the decision to go gender neutral, and the toy Mr. Potato Head, won't be called "Mister" any longer.  Sadly....this is no joke.

Gender neutral my....foot!!!

Also, some of the Cherokee "leadership" has protested Jeep using their name on a vehicle. Jeep has been using the name since the 1970's, but now, it seems, it is offensive to some "head of the group". Of course that the name is NOT being used in a disparaging manner, and never has been, doesn't make any difference. A "tribal leader" objects, and has had his wittle feewings hurt.

Good grief.

I'm part Cherokee, and I don't mind a dang bit!!!! Next vehicle I buy may be a Jeep Cherokee...presuming the Jeep corporation doesn't develop a rubber spine.

What a bunch of spoiled, politically correct, gutless wonders.

That story has been floating around for maybe ten years. Mr and Mrs Potato Head are still available in the toy section of your favorite Walmart.

That figures...

I had actually heard the suggestion that Jeep change the name to "Pioneer." While seemingly innocuous, the Pioneers were the reason the tribes were pushed off the land they lived on.

Yea but this time they did change it. It's Potato Head, but what I saw was it says Mr and Mrs Potato head on the bottom of the box, a rebranding of sorts. The funny thing is it always contained all the different parts to change a potato into Mr or Mrs.

From what I can see, Hasbro has renamed the toy line generally as "Potato Head", but has retained the "Mr." and "Mrs." variations as seperate models; looks more like a branding issue than any gender sensitivity.

"Cherokee" has been a Jeep model continuously since 1973, and "Grand Cherokee" since 1993.

This tribal sensitivity is misplaced.  There is nothing demeaning about using a  tribal name, in the absence of mockery or unflattering ethnic stereotyping.

Let's look at this problem from another angle:

I went to three drug stores and Walmart trying to find Alberto VO-5 hair goop, a well known and very old men's hair product.  I finally found some at CVS.....three tubes on a bottom shelf of the men's 3/4 aisle section. Yet they have about a hundred feet of women's product, maybe more, down four aisles and across an entire back wall.

If this were an isolated case I wouldn't gripe about it, but I can't find any brand of mustache wax (lots of sticky crap for spiked hair and women's hair), most places never even heard of Bay Rum, Vitalis is only available at CVS, and almost everything else in the men's aisle is fragrentized beyond belief, sissified and overly costly, and yet some women complain about not being equal.  Over the years I have worked with and for many women, mostly very good...one was exceptional... and a few who were average.  Only one was below par and she was the bosses wife.  All were paid the same as men, the exceptional one wasn't and she changed that over the first year.

I am accused of being racist because I speak out about illegal aliens, object to almost everything I buy is made in some foreign country, and don't agree with many things that my government and many businesses give these people using MY money to do it.

Jeep has air bags...on an OFF THE ROAD vehicle... and they can'r be turned off or modified.  I finally bought a fifteen year old IH Scout and drove it until it fell apart.

My two year old Impala has all kinds on "mandated" features that I detest and can't get rid of and two have stopped working.  Through no action on my part, but thank God anyway.

I am sick and tired of talking heads telling me I'm wrond, distorting fcts, and simply spreading hate and discontent for rheir benifit and the general public be damned.

I am sick of being targeted by various groups because I am white, male, elderly, crippled up, conservative, gun owner, pro life, and any number of other things. yer when I Fight back I am the bad guy.

Tough.  I'm me and now I let their BS roll of what I can and change my sources when I can't tolerate it any longer.

Im don't epect this to be on the wire very long, but I have to vent sometimes.

Yep...all this may have been floating around for a good while...no arguments about that. Point is, it made the news I was listening to, and I was just blown away.

Our high school mascot is the "Indians". There was talk about renaming the mascot, but public sentiment, around here, was heavily against it.

So folks said...okay, we'll just rebrand the name to "NDN's"...if you try to change the name.

We still have a statue of a Confederate soldier, on our court house lawn, that was put up in the early 20th century, and so far, it is still there. It makes a great educational tool, to let the kids know the men were brave, but made errors in judgment. We CAN have history, and learn lessons from it, without trying to hide it, sugar-coat it, or pretend it did not happen. How can we learn from our past mistakes, if we hide the truth?

This is all so ridiculous. Isn't doing this sort of thing, just another form of lying?

I went to McMurry in Abilene and we were the Indians. Used to set up a teepee village for homecoming. Some years back the NCAA made them change the name. Now it's the Warhawks. Teepee village is gone too. Guess they were afraid of offending some snowflake. One of the few times I wished I was filthy rich. I'd have sued the NCAA until Gabriel blows his horn.

A town a little over two hours from here decided, last year, to change the names of the two local high schools, because their names were not politically correct. Several years ago, one of the high schools had already been pressured to change the name of their mascot.

The total cost, to do this, is estimated to be $330,000.00. Can the school district come up with the money to make these changes? Will they have to raise taxes to do this?

If they can find a way to raise $330,000.00, why haven't they done so, way before this, and given the teachers a bonus, or pay raise, or help the kids that are below the poverty line, instead of wasting it on political correctness???

Looks like, in today's socialistic leaning society, we care more about political correctness, than the human beings that are teachers, and students.

Teachers are some of the most highly educated individuals in the nation, yet their salaries are pathetic. I am talking about classroom teachers, and not those in administration, whose salaries may be as bloated as a four day old dead hog.

Our heritage, and history, in this country, is not perfect....never has been....never will be. Should we hide it, sugar-coat it, pretend it didn't happen, or ignore it? Is that not just another form of lying...not only to our offspring, but to ourselves?

Or, do we face it, acknowledge it, wade out to meet it, learn from it, teach about it, and try to improve?

Looks like we are going to just hide it, and pretend it never happened, and then we can all be happy that no one is offended by anything.

Way back when I was a telephone tech. They talked about how wrong it was to call a manhole a manhole. They wanted it changed to "person hole", now that sounds so much better. Maybe "non-binary hole" would be moe betta. Maybe we need to rename everything a number or letter, then only possibly Wheel of Fortune would be offended. GAWD!! I also think when I got elected onto the Selectboard, the paper should have recognized me as the first Pollock selectman !
