Chantry
Fairey Swordfish, one of the more important and unrecognized aircraft of WWII. It disabled the KMS Bismarck, sank 1 battleship and severely damaged 2 more during the attack on Taranto, sank more Axis naval tonnage than any other plane in the Atlantic & Mediterranean and made enormous contributions spotting and directing attacks by escorts as well as sinking German submarines while operating from escort carriers in the Atlantic & North Atlantic. Loved by its pilots and crew for it's engine reliability, ability to absorb damage and and superb slow speed flight characteristics. A number of German and Italian pilots flew their planes into the ocean or ground in unsuccessful attacks on Swordfish. No matter how many times I watch films of it, it always looks WEIRD to see the folded wings on a biplane. Thanks for the video.
Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103
You're right, folding biplane wings DO look strange! I keep wondering the kind of latch they used that would stand the strain ... not to mention the rigors of every roll, pitch and yaw! Workmanship, materials and design of the very best kind!
