Tequila Shooter
I have an opportunity to but a saddle ring carbine Marlin ‘94 chambered in .38-40 that was made in 1907. We haven’t worked out a price, but I’d like to hear what y’all think would be a fair price. Here’s on of the pictures he sent me.

Warden Callaway
Ain't that a Winchester 92? This is a Marlin 94.

Don't look like any Marlin I've ever seen, and I've seen em all the way back into the 1800's. P.S. - if its a real Marlin, BUY IT. It would be priceless! ..........Widder
Tequila Shooter
You guys are correct, my mistake it’s a Winchester. So now what do you think?
Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L
.38-40 is a great cartridge, I love it
Warden Callaway
In these crazy times, it's hard to put a price estimate on anything. With only one picture, it's impossible to judge condition. Looks reblued. What does the markings look like? Were they buffed out? Mechanical condition? Complete? Wood solid and not sanded away?

Jailhouse Jim, SASS #13104
Winchester '92's are really sweet rifles and you won't find a better cartridge to use will in it. If it's a pre-64, be prepared to spend $700-$2500 depending on condition. Post-64 will be a bit less but original winchesters are way up in price these days. Tex Jones, SASS 2263
Can't really tell the overall condition without more pics, but if it looks as good as the pics indicate, condition of bore is good, no rebluing ( is the Winchester address visible on the barrel ), then a reasonable price would be upwards of $1,500 in today's market. There's a '92 in 38-40 on Guns America built in 1899 with a price tag of $2,395.
Warden Callaway
Three years ago I trained for the 92 (in the middle) and had just over $1,000 in it. The outside is solid but well worn. It has a perfect bore as it was originally a 25-20 and recut to 32WCF. Good shooter.
Three Foot Johnson
Wood looks great, screws look good, overall condition looks great. 38-40 is a plus - if it's got a good bore, $1500 at the very bottom end. The folding carbine sight alone will bring $250 - $400 on the auction sites. The sight is worth enough as a stand alone part, some sellers take it off, replace it with a cheap $20 sight, and sell the sight separately. I just paid $850 for a 1905 vintage .25-20 '92 carbine with -0- finish and some *cosmetic problems* with the wood. Tight, clean, and an excellent bore though... and a replacement sight. But, if the bore is good it's still worth $1600- $1800
