Heritage Barkeep .22 LR/WMR

I saw the ad for the nifty little belly gun with the 2 inch barrel.  I like that it can come in .22 WMR as well, but unfortunately it doesn't seem to come in a birds-head grip offering or with the 8 round cylinder offering that the Rough Rider has.

I did see a video of a guy that took two Rough Riders apart, shortened a barrel to snub length with a new sight he put on it, installed a birdshead grip and used the 8 round cylinder.  He even put a lanyard ring on the handle.  I'm wondering if that's legal?  Heritage's website mentions registration details needing to match with the serial of the gun.  Is that just liability speak on their end or is this something set in stone at either a state or federal level?

The problem would be solved easily if Heritage would just make the Barkeep with an 8 round cylinder and a birdshead grip!

You can install a birdshead grip pretty darn cheap.

Now that I reread your post....

I think that verbiage is legaleze just in case some state has a capacity limit on revolvers. Personally, I wouldn’t worry about it and I live in Kaleepornia.

I also like that Barkeep and have decided it’s my next purchase. Trouble is, there are none to be had in my area.

I like the “pimp” version. It’s so tacky it’s cool.

They have mother of pearl birdshead grips too.

Okay, that's cool too...cheap enough to get both and not feel guilty. ;)

Okay, with the Heritage or Wranglers, are they load one, skip one, load 4 like the larger guns?

I bought a few 2 weeks ago from Grice, but they're out of stock now.  Look around online, they're out there.

So are the .22s transfer bars?

There is no transfer bar between the hammer and the firing pin.  Rather, there is what Heritage calls a "hammer block" controlled by a safety lever next to the hammer on the frame.  You flip the safety lever to engage or disengage the hammer block.  When the hammer block is engaged, the hammer cannot touch the firing pin (you can dry fire with the safety on without worrying about the firing pin striking the cylinder).

The manual states the pistol is a "load one, skip one, load four" for carry, but not so for "loading to fire right away".

I can’t find any info on a transfer bar system. I might just have to contact Heritage.

I have a 22lr that has the hammer directly strick the firing pin and 2 big bore heritage revolvers in 357/38 that both have transfer bars.   Each one  of the big bore pistols have had a transer bars break.  Of courlse they were my main match pistols for 5 years.  So they got a got of use.  The only problem right now is getting a new transfer bar for the 2nd repair.

The 1st pix shows the firing pin on the 22.  The 2nd, the respective size of each model.

Of course all three pistols were purchased over 5 years ago so models may have changed.

Talked about it here,

No, they don’t.

The only place that I can find on the website that talks about “loading” is on the big bore page with a link to the big bore manual.

I did finally find this line in the small bore manual. Seems like lawyer-speak CYA type stuff.
“Heritage revolvers should be carried with an empty chamber under the hammer.”

That can be found here on page 8:
