Charlie Harley, #14153
I’m starting to fly again for business and was planning on looking for loaded ammo in various parts of the country. Delta is okay with carrying ammo in checked baggage, but there is an 11lb limit. I can’t find anything on the internet regarding weights of boxes of loaded ammo excepT that a box of 12 gauge is about 2.5lbs. My main goal is 12 and 20 gauge. Can someone point me in the right direction?
Sedalia Dave
Too many variables. The most significant being the weight of the projectile. For 12 ga shotgun hulls, STS and AA hulls weigh about twice as much as Gun Clubs. For a box of 25 this equates to about a quarter of a pound difference in total box weight. Edward R S Canby, SASS#59971
I use the MidwayUSA.com site to find the shipping weight of boxes of shotgun shells (check under specifications). I don't check more than 10-lbs of ammo because I don't trust the accuracy of airline scales.
