You're right, I had to look it up. I've heard the band before as I do listen to different music styles except hip hop/rap. I would have never won the grand prize if this was the question.:P

I've heard of the band and Hatfield, my son, sometimes listens to the more modern stuff so I've likely heard it before!!  Wouldn't have ever come up with it on my own.

I went to an inner city high school that was incredibly diverse before the word “diverse” became a popular pc catch word. Old school hip hop / rap was and is something I am fine with, and I keep some on my playlists to this day.

With two daughters very into music, and my youngest being almost encyclopedic in her knowledge and interest of music, it was hard not to get to know more modern music. Since I’ve got a hunch nobody is going to come up with the answer, I’ll say I find a lot of Fall Out Boy’s music to be enjoyable, and Dance, Dance features prominently on my running playlist.

Here’s one!! Pretty obscure too!

There was a time, early in life,

When he gambled the game and he carried the knife,

And he was winnin’ that very night.

He cussed the devil, yes he cussed him good,

And he swore he’d whip him, yes he swore he could,

And he dared him to come to him if he would.

I’m gonna say that this one has got the audience stumped, so I’m gonna spill.

Don't care if my doctor says I oughta be dead

When my ugly old car won't make this hill

I'll write a suicide note on a hundred-dollar bill

Since it's been hanging out for awhile, what the heck. Hoyt Axton's Lightning Bar Blues? Yes, I will admit, even though I like Hoyt Axton, this is one I wasn't familiar with. It was also recorded by Arlo Guthrie and others.

This should be a piece of cake.

In the silence of her mind
Quiet movements where I can find
Grabbing for me with her eyes
Now I'm falling from her skies

I know they are listed as two songs, but I have to believe they are intended as one, to be played together, especially considering the ending with the repeated "mother" "nature" and "no sugar."

On that "Live at the Paramount" album, they do "New Mother Nature" as a stand alone number and in a more Blues style.  Even the tune is somewhat different!!  Check it out. I think you'll like it!!

Never noticed that part of the recording OR can't recall hearing it.  The second half is familiar and I heard it played a lot in the seventies.  Looked it up, so someone else can name it!!

Yet another two songs that are best heard as one. Must be a Canadian thing!

That’s one of those I know I should know, but I just can’t place it. If nobody answers soon, I’ll look it up.

I did, and I think my question might be a hint. But since I googled it I can't claim any prize for knowing it.

Try this one:

Mildew, rot, and a warping floor.

And your clothes start sprouting penicillin.

And the planking collapses when

your kid pokes at it with a lollipop stick.

And that monster engine don't help a lot,

it roars and sparks and you make one knot.

This might be google-proof (really obscure). I clearly remember the album name, I think I remember the song name. Give me the next lyric for the win! Bonus if the song name matches my memory.

I ended up looking it up. As soon as I saw what it was I couldn't believe I couldn't figure it out.

That one is sho’ nuff a puzzler!!

I don’t have a clue and it doesn’t come up on any lyric search.  It COULD be a Buffet tune.  Half his stuff is about boats...

Try this one!!  Many have covered it!!  CLASSIC!

The night was clear
And the moon was yellow
And the leaves came tumbling down
I was standing on the corner
When I heard my bulldog bark
He was barkin' at the two men who were gamblin'
In the dark

Try this one!!

Arrows of neon and flashing marquees out on Main Street
Chicago, New York, Detroit and it's all on the same street
Your typical city involved in a typical daydream
Hang it up and see what tomorrow brings

J.K.!  Still got no idea on your boat song!!

This is the second verse of the song. The song was done by two artists although one made it popular.

He used to say buddy you know where I'm goin' when they let me out of here

Alabama could be heaven is the Lord was there

And he talked about the southland though he'd drifted from it's shore

Never saw a man who loved it more

This should be an easy one:

It doesn't take much, just a smile or a touch
And I'm a kid again, I can almost feel that wind
