Name that obscure tune . . .

You see it all around you
Good lovin' gone bad
And usually it's too late when you,

realize what you had
And my mind goes back to a girl I left some years ago...who told me...

Hold on Loosely, by .38 Special. I recall that one being in rotation on MTV

We were just young and restless and bored
Living by the sword
And we'd steal away every chance we could
To the backroom, the alley, the trusty woods
I used her she used me
But neither one cared
We were getting our share

We do at least have some similar tastes in music. I was listening to Bob Seger earlier, but it wasn't Night Moves

To me, so many are so obvious, his tunes are just awesome.

And sometimes late at night
Oh, when I'm bathed in the firelight
The moon comes callin' a ghostly white
And I recall

And one that isn't Bob Seger

And if you promised you'd love so completely
And you said you would always be true
You swore that you never would leave me baby
Whatever happened to you?

While somebody else works on the title to that Doors song try this:

400 hogs comes to 800 hams

And that's allot of money for a hog raisin' man

400 hogs comes to 1600 feet

The market's up and there are people waitin' on that meat

That’s Tom T. Hall: Who’s Gonna Feed Them Hogs.

i traveled and performed with Tom T.’s son, Dean Hall, back in the late ‘90s.  He was responsible for the beginnings of NASCAR’s infield shows.  Winston, (RJ Reynolds) was looking for some kickass entertainment to go with their infield program and their representatives were in Nashville on other business. They got into a cab and asked the driver where they could find the best entertainment in town on a Tuesday night. The cabbie took them to a little place called Rivalries, a joint built around a caboose on Murfreesboro Road in south Nashville. Dean, Tom T.’s son was the Tuesday night show and the place was always packed!  He’d get me up to do a number or two almost every week and my guitar playin’ partner, Mark Watson often sat in, among a long list of extremely talented players!

Long story short, they were blown away by Dean’s performance and stage presence and within days Winston had their infield show!!

Schoolmarm and I traveled often with the show and on every occasion when we were present, Dean would invite me up to do a song or two and he would plug Milkbone, my band.

I was there for the last race that Winston was the major sponsor for. It was in Atlanta at season’s end and I actually performed the final number from the “Winston Stage”.  It was Statesboro Blues!!

Dean Hall is a phenomenal guitarist and song writer!!  He’s also a good friend!

Tom T. is perhaps the greatest story teller in country music!!!

I still remember it was autumn and the moon was shinin’,

Our ‘60 Cadillac  was roarin’ through Nebraska whinin’,

Doin a hundred twenty man the fields was bendin’ over.

Headin’ out for the mountains knowin’ we were traveling further.

All our fires were blazin’ and the spinnin’ wheels were turnin’ turnin’

I had my girl beside me Brother,  Brother she was burnin’ burnin’

Speaking of Bob Seger, isn't that Get out of Denver?

It bugged me and was stuck in my head, but I couldn't think of it until earlier. I refused to look it up.

Watching girls go passing  by,

It ain’t the latest thing.

I’m just standing in the doorway.

I’m just trying to make some sense.

That would be Ricky Skagg's Uncle Pen

Written, performed, and recorded first by Bill Monroe.  But Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder did a great job with it as well.

Been two or three days!

Rolling Stones: Waitin’ on a Friend

Here’s one!! Pretty obscure too!

There was a time, early in life,

When he gambled the game and he carried the knife,

And he was winnin’ that very night.

He cussed the devil, yes he cussed him good,

And he swore he’d whip him, yes he swore he could,

And he dared him to come to him if he would.

Color me clueless on this one.

Scrolling back, looks like I have a couple languishing that were either passed over or just too obscure for the crowd.

I’ve been somewhat sidelined.  My home confuser is in the shop for a tuneup and front end alignment!!

You really should look this one up!  You’re in for a good laugh and it IS a great group!!

When I get the MAC back, I’ll scroll back and see what I missed....

I will see what I can find later. No worries on the lyrics I posted. Going to call it a night. Hope you get your Mac back sooner rather than later.

Louis Jordan and the Timpany Five: Is You Is Or Is You Ain’t My Baby?

That’s definitely an obscure number!!  I DID look it up!!  Probably would cause a racial uproar if it was released today!!! :o

Yep! Joe Jackson covered it on his Jumpin' Jive album, which I mentioned being a favorite. That is what made me think of it.

I’d heard the original years ago!!

I DID have to look it up for the artist, so it gave me the original again!

It's not the way you smile that touched my heart

It's not the way you kiss that tears me apart

Many, many, many nights go by

I sit alone at home and cry over you

Don't want nobody, nobody

Cause..........

How about:

The castles that you built so high
Were just too steep for me to climb
And I guess these dirty streets of mine
Were just too rough for you

This one is just obscure enough to make you think.

Of all of the people that I used to know

Most never adjusted to the great big world

I see them lurking in book stores

Working for public radio

Carrying their babies around in a sack on their back

Moving careful and slow.....

While we're waitin' on those two, let me throw y'all a softball!!

When I die don't cry for me,

Don't bury me at all!

Lay my lovin' last bones to rest,

In a jar of alcohol!

Hundred proof alcohol!!

I don't answer if I have to cheat and look it up. I cheated and I can't believe I had to...I think I have that album.

That album had some great stuff on it!!

If I'm intrigued, I'll look one up or if one hangs around a long time!!   I've been in and out of the music industry on several different angles and remember a lot of stuff!!

Looking some of 'em up ain't cheating!!  I'm better with Rock and Blues, but we've had some real stumpers here!

I'm two quarters and a heart down
And I don't want to forget how your voice sounds
These words are all I have so I'll write them
So you need them just to get by

I posted this one a couple of pages back. No, I don't actually expect anyone to get this one without exercising their google-fu. The exception being someone who has kids in their late teens to mid-twenties that keep them up to date, or has a real liking for more current stuff. Did I say too much?

You're right, I had to look it up. I've heard the band before as I do listen to different music styles except hip hop/rap. I would have never won the grand prize if this was the question.:P

I've heard of the band and Hatfield, my son, sometimes listens to the more modern stuff so I've likely heard it before!!  Wouldn't have ever come up with it on my own.
