That's a fabulous song!!  Arrangements and lyrics are among the very best!!  I'm surprised, (and not surprised) that I couldn't recall the title or artist!  I played that album 'til it wouldn't play!!

Hint: Steely Dan................ but I'm not telling you the song!!

Here’s one for ya ‘s!!

Mama and your daddy,

Say I’m no good for you!

Say I’m dirty, from the alley,

And I don’t know what to do!

I get real tired of sneakin’ around

Tryin’ to get to your back door,

Sneakin’ through the garbage

And your mama comes out,

Sayin’ “don’t come back no more!”

I CAN’T TAKE IT!!

"I can't hold you close,

Darling when you're not near me,
You're somebody's love.
You'll never be mine."

***That's NOT the opening lyrics since it starts with the chorus and that would be a dead giveaway.***

Hint:  country song by a country legend but it's been covered numerous times as well.

Making Believe

Originally done by Kitty Wells but has been covered by everybody from Emmylou Harris to Mike Ness and Social Distortion.

(I don't like most country music when it's performed by country musicians.  Covers of country songs done in other genres sound better to me.)

There are exceptions to this, but I am not a fan of Country Music either. I’m a Trisha Yearwood fan. Not the music, the person. Same with Marty Stewart!  I was friends with Don Williams. We played many of the same venues, (fraternity parties and frat houses) and I worked on his bus.

I’m a Dwight Yoakum fan and I really liked Ray Price.  Buck Owens and Willy Nelson swam against the current and apologized to nobody and their music stands out because of it. Johnny Cash couldn’t sing a lick, but he had style for days. Tom T. Hall is a story teller on par with Bob Dylan.

The Marshal Tucker Band produced the finest country music ever done!!

If you’re offended by anything I have said, I ain’t sorry!!

In the words of Tony Joe White, “I ain’t kinky! I just know what I like!” B)

Exactly!

Mike Ness is a bigger country fan that I am.  He's covered Kitty Wells, Hank Sr, Johnny Cash and Marty Robbins- and that's just the ones I can name off the top of my head.  When he does a cover (and there's covers- usually of country songs- on every Social D album- on top of the whole album of covers he did solo), he does it out of the respect he has for the artist in question but makes it in his own style.  Heck, one of the biggest hits he's had was a Ring of Fire cover- they upped the tempo and there ain't no mariachi band horn section in it neither.

Personally, unless it's a particular song or a specific artist- I like Toby Keith's attitude, for example- I avoid most country music at all costs.  For the most part, that means that I'll actually listen to the song rather than changing the channel or station.  Respect their musicianship?  Yep but, for the most part, don't want to listen to the end product.

Modern country is bubble gum pop with a lap steel and the occasional banjo or fiddle thrown in.  I'd rather listen to the real Lady A (a West Coast blues singer) than Lady Antebellum any day.  I quit pop music when Bill Clinton was in office and, best I can tell, it ain't got any better since.  If you play most of the stuff from the '70's and '80's backwards, you get your wife back, your money back, your job back, your girlfriend back, your dog comes back to life, your truck fixes itself and you sober up.  Not interested.  I'll listen to the old country from the '40's or before quicker than I will most of the stuff out today.

Somebody!!  Get this one!!!  NOT a mainstream artist.  Not from any usual genre you hear on the radio!

VERY popular performer from days gone by!

Ok try this

I've seen men look at her before
And they think, I don't see
I'd like to think it makes me proud
But, I'm only fooling me
I know she'll be lookin' back
The minute I'm not there
While she pours herself on some stranger
I pour myself a drink somewhere

Actually, we never have.  I don’t know why. So many great songs and so little time!!!

I still find myself gravitating to the Blues more and more, but an oldie comes along now and then.

As to the artist most associated with this song, I lean more toward “I Hear You Knockin’!” ;)

Love was never meant for me
True love was never meant for me
It seems somehow, we never can agree
Life is full of misery
Dreams are like a memory
Bringing back your love that used to be
Tears so many I can't see
Years don't mean a thing to me
Time goes by and still, I can't be free

I looked up both those songs and am surprised that they were both written and recorded before Fats recorded them . I always thought Fats wrote Blueberry Hill!!:o He sure was the one who made them famous though!

Don’t wanna’ discuss it?

Think it’s time for a change!

You might get disgusted,

Start thinkin’ that I’m strange.

Easy. Domino by Van Morrison. I haven't really been following the thread, just thought I would scroll through this morning.

How obscure should we get? I assume not Cyrus Cassidy obscure (no offense intended), but obscure enough that someone might need to be a true fan to recognize it?

While I sit around my love can scrub the floor.
She'll kiss me every hour or she'll get the sack
And when I take a shower she can scrub my back.

Definite Van Morrison fan here. I knew the artist immediately, but suffered brain fade and had to run through the lyrics in my head for a couple of minutes to get the title to pop in!
