Here’s another newer one.

”Now and then I feel a cold wind,

blowin’ through my achin’ bones!”

The next line is...

“I think back to what my daddy said,

he said, ‘boy in this darkness,

before the dawn,’ “

Anybody??

Love that one “1000 Miles From Nowhere”

They’re using it for a commercial these days.

“Alvin never told me he got high,

Then I heard that he got wasted,

Scorin’ from a guy who issued mainline,

As a sideline.”

I’ll offer a hint: think blind artist!

Dwight yoakum did two great songs with very similar names. “1000 miles” and “1000 miles from nowhere”

If I had to guess Jeff Healey? But I won’t give a Google search answer

Got my titles and lyrics mixed up!!  I’m not a fan of country music, but I AM a Dwight Yoakum fan!!

Not Jeff Healey, but that would fit the description!!  You’re gonna shake your head when the answer is revealed.  This is a really obscure number by a really popular performer!!  It’s old too!!

If we don’t get an answer to this one in another 30 minutes, I’ll post the YouTube clip with the title and artist!!

I remember hearing this song when I was not long out of high school and being amazed at who the artist was!!

Okay!!  Here it is!!  The artist is Ronnie Milsap!!   "The Cat Was A Junkie"

This song rattled around in my brain for years, but I never went as far as finding it until a couple of years ago!!  When I first heard it, it sounded like a B.J. Thomas song and it was a month or more before I heard the artist's name in connection with it!!  I'd forgotten the title or that Milsap was the singer until I finally broke down and did a search by lyrics!!

We met in the springtime when blossoms unfold
The pastures were green and the meadows were gold
Our love was in flower as summer grew on
Her love like the leaves now has withered and gone.

It ain't obscure but it's old enough that it may give pause to some.

For Southern Rock enthusiasts:

"I met a peroxide blonde in a bar on D-ville
I was flying high and feeling mean
Poured down a bottle and a half of red eye
I dropped 35 dollars in the slot machine"

Step right up, young man, and claim your new Cadillac!

That one was right in my wheelhouse!!  Two of my schoolmates and a friend all played on that album!  Barry Barnes was the lead guitar and wrote "Feelin' Free"!!

More recently he played in my band for several years!!  Good friend and was a neighbor when we were in middle school!!  LOT of history there!!

He has played several SASS events with us in the past!!  Also an avid shooter, though not in SASS.

I've been thinking 'bout our fortune,

And I've decided that we're really not to blame,

For all the love that's deep inside us now,

Is still the same.

Jack of Diamonds was the version my grandmother always sang and then medleyed it with Rye Whiskey!!

I never knew they were two different songs until I took music in high school!!
