word for letter code

Thank you. That's how I've always pronounced it. I was just sitting here running through the alphabet to see if I could remember it all (I could not remember Q or U - alpha bravo charlie delta echo Fox golf hotel India Juliet kilo Lima Mike November Oscar papa something Romeo Sierra tango something Victor whiskey x-ray Yankee zulu).

Couldn't think of very many words that started with q - queer? Question? - didn't seem like those would be good choices. And U? Unicorn, umbrella, unique? None of those seemed right either.

And remember... if you ever watched Adam-12 when you were a kid, you know that police have a different phonetic alphabet.

I know I've heard Juliet somewhere. Maybe they use Juliet in aviation.

Uniform. That just makes way too much sense.

Quebec? Seriously?

I thought juno was spelled j u n e a u.

I learned able Baker Charlie dog Edward Fox. This alpha bravo stuff still sounds wrong to me.

It was modified after WW II.  If you watch Combat! re-runs you'll hear the old references.  ;)

I believe I may be wrong about f. It used to be Fox, but now I believe it's foxtrot?

It’s been foxtrot for a long time, at least the 60s

Ahhh, Foxtrot has been used since the NATO phonetic code was adopted in 1956.

It is, but we used Juno. And no, I do not know why.
