My wife sent me this picture today from some Mule Deer group she’s in on the Internet.

Anybody know that what model rifle this is?  I had no clue and asked my brother and he said he thought it was a Remington model 14 or 141.

Curious,

Your brother is correct. It is either a 14 or a 141. A 14 was in rifle caliber - this is my 14 in 35 Remington - and a 141 was in pistol caliber - 44/40, something like that.

It looks to me is if the magazine tube is twisted. They did this on the 14 so that you could use pointed rifle bullets in that tubular magazine. The twist shape made sure that the bullet nose was not anywhere near the primer of the cartridge in front of it.

I can't think of any reason why they would do that on the 141, which with chambered for flat nose bullets.

The Model 141 was an updated model 14 with a larger forend and buttstock and a 24" barrel.

The Model 14&1/2 was chambered in pistol calibers such as 44/40 and did not have the spiral groves on the magazine tube.
