Offered the vaccine.

Been offered the vaccine through work as a frontline healthcare worker. Don't know if I should take it or not. Pretty sure I already have had the virus. What would you do?

As soon as my turn comes up, I'll be vaccinated. I'm 72 with no particular 'conditions' apart from age itself. I figure it'll be at least a couple of months off, if not more.

I was vaccinated against smallpox and polio. I suppose other things back then. I've had a lot of tetanus shots over the years. All my kids and grandkids have always gotten their vaccines. Since I got into my 60s and am now in the 70s, I get the flu and pneumonia vaccines. I had the shingles vaccine, too.

Simple common sense.

Going to see if can get an antibody test before taking it, no sense in getting it if already had it, just be using a vaccine that could go elsewhere. Failing that will have to decide at that point.

"First thing I would do is call my doctor! "

Usually makes sense, but mines a horses ass. Heart doctor is good, PCP is a jerk. I'd consult first with a few of the doctors I see through work.

My doctor told me that since I already had covid that I didn’t need the vaccine but I’ve talked to a few nurses who say they’ve had covid and were encouraged by their doctors to get the vaccine. My daughter in law is a frontline nurse at a hospital in Arizona where there are large numbers of covid patients and had it in August. She got the vaccine on Thursday and had flulike symptoms on Friday and Saturday but was feeling much better yesterday. I believe I will take the vaccine once my turn comes around.

I wouldn't get it from the first two companies,  people are having heart problems from it and bells palsy.  Wait for the slower companies then decide.

The cdc said we all will get the virus but most will never show symptoms but the vaccine has been shown already to give you symptoms.   Why give yourself symptoms for a virus that may never bother you?  If others are worried, let them get the vaccine.

I never get the flu vaccine anymore because of what it dies to me and how my kids react when they getthe flu vaccine,  I figure this us no different plus in GA of the ones who got the virus, only 1.9 percent died.  Most got over it in a few days.

Plus the army gave me vaccines and nerve agent antidote pills to help me build immunity to a chemical attack that we stopped from happening but 29 years later I'm still having side effects from those things, so no thank you.

Not a Doctor.  Not an Immune specialist.  Word on the street is antibodies from having had the virus only last 90 or so days.  I don't know if that is correct or not.  There have been rumor of side effects.  To date, other than documented allergic reactions (few) there have been NO documented adverse reactions.  Considering the alternatives . . . . GET VACCINATED.   As a front line health care worker, you're in an excellent position to carry the virus to EVERYONE around you.  SOME OF WHOM MIGHT DIE.

I will personally try to be at the front of the line.  YMMV

Take it. I know if I had a 94% chance of winning the lottery darn right I would be playing the lottery.

but you have a 99.5% of living through it, without the vaccine.  isn't that better odds for the lottery?  my experience though may be different but I don't do well with some vaccines

as front liner you may have no choice unless you want to be unemployed , im not rushing out for it , im not front line or employed , i dont disagree with getting vaccinated - it saved me from polio i think and probably small pocks [not sure i ever had exposure of small pox tho] but ive never had a flu shot , i generally dont get the flue , ill be holding off for now ,

I think it’s up to each person until mandated by job or can’t get your license or airplane ticket etc until you do.  I’ve heard numbers from 30-60% needing to take to reach “herd” immunity.

I will not be taking it unless forced.  I strongly believe my 99.5% plus odds vs a vaccine that is so new at this time.  I don’t go around licking door handles and any family that would be potentially impacted by the virus live far away anyways and they will be getting the vaccine, except for the ones that don’t trust it because Trump talked about it.

When I have to, I will get but I would rather have the latest, most up to date version I could get after they work the bugs out so to speak.  I think it’s really different for everyone and respect their voice, but I fully support the right to choose at this point in time.  Besides, I’m just saving a dose for someone more in need :)

Take it!  I have 4 members of my family that have dealt with the virus.  It ain't no fun.  Like changing the oil in you car. Probably isn't necessary but better than a go around with the virus.

Sounds like it's time for a new doctor!

I've known or know of 3-4 people that had it twice. It would seem that's no guarantee you can't get it again. One guy had a mild case first time and got SICK the second.

Would I take a vaccine with a 95% effective rate and lasts for approximately 3 months for a China Flu with a 99.96% survival rate?  No I will not.

Survival rate, whatever it actually is, doesn't mean unharmed.  Every day people survive this disease, but will live with it's effects for a long time to come, if not the rest of their lives.  I recommend getting vaccinated.

My health I don't have a 99.5% chance and with those having reaction to vaccines of course you don't take it. Always exceptions to every rule.

There’s no downside for not winning the lottery other than losing a buck or two for the ticket.
Downside for losing the Virus latterly is a bit more severe.

MOST people will not catch smallpox, polio, diphtheria, pneumonia, whooping cough, tetanus, or measles. But I’ve been vaccinated for all of em. Just in case.

MOST people will never need to use a gun for self defense either. But I carry one. Just in case

I think one of the reasons I’m still upright is because I’ve always tried to take reasonable precautions....just in case.

For most people a 1 in 100 chance of dying is unacceptable.  COVID-19 is right at that threshold.  Further, many victims take months to recover and may never fully recover.  I've seen shooters at CAS matches tethered to an oxygen bottle.  I don't want to be one of them.

Don't drive, don't drink, don't smoke, don't cross the street, don't drink the tap water, don't point a weapon at a Officer, don't eat meat, don't tell the wife she looks fat in that dress may all postpone dying but aren't we are all are going to die sometime?  Would y'all rather have a long safe boring life living in fear or a fun filled life?

Just a reminder that we've lost several SASS members recently to the virus.  Yes, they were older shooters, but so are a lot of us!   We've also had quite a few get really, really sick from it.

Just to work in a hospital setting I've had to be vaccinated for MMR, Hep-B, Influenza (yearly), tested yearly for TB... not to mention long ago vaccines for Smallpox, Polio, (both Salk and Sabin), and stuff I can't even remember.  You military vets have been vaccinated for the weirdest stuff imaginable.  Heck, what's one more?

My PCP says, "GET IT!"  My Cardiologist says, "GET IT!"... So yes, when it becomes available to me, I'll get it.

BETTER TO HAVE IT AND NOT NEED IT, THAN TO NEED IT AND NOT HAVE IT.

Words of wisdom.   My age and health put me at the head of the line after caregivers.

I consulted with my doctor. He strongly suggested both my wife and myself GET THE VACCINE.
