Not my quote
“I was on the Bridge on watch when the XO ordered the ship to come to attention and render honors, which is done by the Boastwains Mate of the Watch sounding the boatswain's pipe. There were no other ship's around for us to pass honors, or receive honors from, but rather receiving honors from these two kids. Well done, Sir... Well done. #AboveAllOthers

Yep.  Kudos to whoever spotted the kids and called them to the attention of the XO., and to the XO for taking the initiative and returning the courtesy.

To those of us who have barely gotten our feet wet, or less, how does a ship render honors?

In this case,

1228. Passing honors between ships.

  1. Passing honors, consisting of sounding “Attention” and rendering the hand salute by all persons on view on deck and not in ranks, shall be exchanged between ships of the Navy and between ships of the Navy and the Coast Guard, passing close aboard. All Rights Reserved MilitaryWives.com, Inc. http://www.militarywives.com
