DocWard
Living in Ohio and enjoying astronomy, I've learned one thing. If there is an interesting, unique, once in a lifetime astronomical experience, it will be cloudy.

Calamity Kris
We've had a lot of fog recently. I hope we get to see it, but I'm doubting it as well.

Colorado Coffinmaker
Ohio and Pennsylvania are close relations. We have the same problem with Astronomical Events. Clouds. Lots of really THICK clouds. I have a nice Telescope. It's covered with Dust. Just too cloudy to use except on evenings when there is nothing to see. bgavin
Nope. Winter solstice is the shortest day of the year.
Sixgun Sheridan
I've seen a lot of the celestial events that occurred during the summer, but winter is always a bad time here in WA because it's our monsoon season. I last saw the planets a few weeks ago when they were close enough to get in the same shot with my camera, but it looks like I'm SOL tonight because it's been pouring all weekend and will continue for the next several days. Unless of course I hike up to the top of Mt Rainier.

bgavin
Yep. That is absolutely true. This gives hope to those in the hot climates... Here in Sacramento, it gets so hot I caught two Hobbits trying to drop a ring into our pool.

Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L
Saw them Saturday but too late as they were right by our street light and already very low on the horizon. Looked last night right at dusk with my 10x binoculars and could clearly see the two dots one larger that the other. Tonight will look again with my 25x Kowa spotting scope on a tripod to hopefully see them better.

Captain Bill Burt
Not a cloud in the sky here. The Burt bunch will be heading to the lake in a bit to get a good view. Guess I need to get the telescope out and dust it off.

Cowtown Scout, SASS #53540 L
Well it finally got dark enough to see them and with my 25x spotting scope I could barely see the outline of the rings of Saturn, pretty neat.

bgavin
The seeing was a bit wispy, but we did well with my Dad's old Bausch and Lomb binocs. It would have been better if they were tripod mounted, though. The telescope would have brought them in much closer, but the seeing was hazy enough it would have soured any telescope photos. If I'm still here 800 years from now, maybe the seeing will be better...
