Try the Chiappa 1886. I have one and really like it. It's as close to a real original Winchester as you can get. The originals have a 1/2 cock notch. The newer Winchesters use a rebounding hammer with a tang safety.

Plus one to this!

Real Winchester 86's, those made in New Haven Connecticut, have a half cock position on the hammer.  This was considered the safety position back in the day.  This was basically true for every Winchester lever gun ever made.

Modern "Winchesters" made under licence in Japan removed the half cock notch from the hammer and put in a rebounding one along with a tang mounted safety switch. This is true for their 86, 92, 94 and 95 reproductions.  But not their 73 for some reason.

Personally, I would not buy one the Japanese guns.   They are supposed to be very well made, but I personally loathe the modern features.

On the other hand, the Chiappa 86 replica is pretty much as John Browning designed it, and it is well worth obtaining one.
