Warden Callaway
Last fall we dropped off my Stimulus Colt SAA in 38WCF made in 1906 off with Bill Fuchs of Spring Creek Armory in Ten Sleeps Wyoming to completely refinished and make a couple of fixes. I got it back about a week ago. The metal work and blueing was perfect. The action nice and smooth. The color case came out a bit gray with very little blue or copper colors. Just the luck of the draw. But I tried a suggestion on the Colt forum that Tru-Oil to be used on color case to bring out the color and give it some protection. This afternoon I took the gun apart and scrubbed it up with soap and hot water. Then used acetone to take off any oil or wax. I then applied a scant amount of Tru-Oil. It made a lot of difference. This is what I took him. This is how it came back. Besides refinishing, he built up the front sight to original contour, twinked the action, tightened up cylinder endshake, screws cleaned up like new, etc. Test fired for windage and elevation. Here is one he worked on for Mike Venturino. He made some repairs, fire blued the screws, trigger, cylinder latch and base pin. Also made the grips. He says he makes a set of grips for about one in three SAAs he get in.
