Only if you have to feed it, and want the easiest availability of ammo and don't want to handload an odd-cartridge. OTOH, if you like to develop odd loads, anything but the .50 caliber can be formed from .45-70 brass. For the .50's you need .348 brass. But, he's in good shape with a .45-70!
