Texas ShaDi
I have a 97 that the forearm will no longer stay in place. It is the type with the three small screws. Can it be converter to the other style?
Outlaw Gambler
Short and simple answer is yes. However, the long tube with screw cap action slides are hard to find, and expensive. You can probably find the long tube action slide for the take down model with a little digging. However obtaining a long tube action slide for a solid frame will be a lot more difficult task. From a cost stand point you will be better off to get a replacement three screw forearm wood and install it on your three screw action slide. twelve mile REB
It probably isn't the wood but the tiny three screws. Only three or four threads on each screw holds the forearm in place. The only fix using the original parts isn't a great one but will work. Using an epoxy glue, glue the forearm to the actuator arm. Now epoxy is weak in shear, so to take some of the strain off the glue joint install the three screws with epoxy, even though they are stripped out they will supply some support. After everything is set up clean the inside of the actuator arm so nothing is dragging on the magazine tube. This makes the complete take down of the shotgun very difficult as you must "de-epoxy" the forearm which quite likely will destroy it. The other fix is to find screws a little larger in diameter with the proper head and length then re-tap the holes for the new screws and refit the screws to the wooden forearm. Often the counter sink in the wooden forearm is also in need of repair. I have done both repairs to my 97's they work BUT.

They are solid frames.
