Texas Lizard
Charley Pride, he was 86...He broke into country music when country sounded great...Not sure about the country music today...Not crazy about the sound.... Texas Lizard
Phantom Falcon, SASS # 46139
TL, concur. What they call Country Music today is mostly noise. The bands play rock and roll music and the singers can't carry a tune and the songs have no meaning. PF
Linn Keller, SASS 27332, BOLD 103
Absolutely loved listening to that man sing. Rest his soul, I reckon he'll make a fine addition to the Heavenly Choir!

Phantom Falcon, SASS # 46139
On my list of Country Singers, Charley ranks third behind Ray Price and George Jones, with Hank Williams fourth. PF

Cyrus Cassidy #45437
Wow, I hadn't heard. A lot of folks don't know that before he went into music, he played professional baseball in the Negro Leagues. I have a baseball autographed by him. No, I didn't buy it; he autographed it for me. Three Foot Johnson
The beer will be flowing in East Helena tonight. All of the old-timers here knew him, and even a lot of us young-uns met him in our younger years before he hit it big. He lived and worked here, and played semi-pro baseball for an East Helena team. Here's a picture of the group he performed with in many of the local bars & nightclubs, The Nighthawks, about 1963 or '64.
