The “Night Owls” produced a series of seasonally themed “Friday Patches” and this 2017 patch illustrates the unit’s winter holiday spirit! Do you see Santa and his reindeer? Sedalia Dave
When I was in the Navy we often had deployment specific patches made. Some of which couldn't be posted here.

Aircrews wore them on their flight suits and flight jackets. Maintenance crews on their coveralls and Jackets. Put on with velcro so they could be easily swapped out or removed when necessary. Regs allowed for an official Unit patch on some uniforms however on deployment what was considered a unit patch was pretty broad. Also worn on non uniform jackets. I have a couple vests with the back covered with the various patches I collected during my Navy career.
