Ozark Huckleberry
Looks similar to the condition of some of the firearms that were returned to their Louisiana owners after being confiscated in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

Back when I was gunsmithing for a living I had a detective bring me his revolver that he couldn’t unload the live cartridges out of. I don’t know what he spilled on it but the whole thing was gummed up pretty bad

If the cylinder was from a 44-40, should work. (I know someone that shot 44 Russian in a 45 Colt 1894 Winchester once! It worked but the cases did not fare well.) From probably 1W primed black powder by 1911-1915 to early smokeless 1W primed powder. The UMC is more than likely black powder with the omittance of the "U" on the primer. Don't know much about the 44 S&W variants. The 38-40 is also 1W primed so it could be smokeless or black powder
