Cholla Bob
I have had good results with a 50/50 mix of shellac and alcohol in a spray bottle. Just shape, spray and let dry. If it won't spray just add alcohol till it does.

Marauder SASS #13056
A lot depends on the hat - what it is made of. Pure wool (from sheeps) needs something to help it.
Sgt. C.J. Sabre, SASS #46770
It's made of hair. Try hair spray. I knew a guy who had a brown hat, decided he wanted a black hat. Hair dye from Walmart.
Texas Joker
You can paint it with melted parafin. Suggest the underside brim Or use spray starch.
TN Mongo, SASS #61450
David Johnson of D bar J hats stiffened one of my hats at last year's Border Town match. He uses isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle. He sprayed my hat and after I wore it in the sun for about two hours, it was perfect. My hat is 10X beaver; I'm not sure if that will work with a 100 wool felt hat.

Jack Rojas
When any of mine need a little TLC it's just Niagra spray starch and a hot iron to flatten them out or steam from a kettle and hand shaping, holding until cool then repeating until the shape stays in place. Never a one shot deal or once in a lifetime either. But who wants a stiff hat anyway, Dammit? Have fun with it, JUD
