At least four of the words you used have a Latin base. Knowing the Latin and Greek roots of so much of our language can be useful and important. We've had the discussion about the origins of English before. Germanic base, a modified Latin grammar, heavy Middle French influence and a habit of taking loan words and mangling their pronounciation until they are easier to say....
