I can’t read the “full story” but got the gist of it. I hope he goes to jail. BUT, I also hope this raises awareness to the California public how anti-Constitutional this state actually is. That someone in that man’s position would go to that length to get something that is so much easier to get in the rest of the country...well, almost the rest of the country.

Interesting. The original post appears to be saying that the Microsoft people attempted to bribe the sheriff to get carry permits.

 

If I'm reading the link at cnet correctly, the sheriff solicited the bribe - y'all give me 200 iPads and I'll give you those four permits.

The California public, overall, does not care how unconstitutional all this behavior is.

For a very long time now, there is a well documented 2:1 Democrat voter advantage in CA.
The legislature is a super majority of Democrats.
Primaries are gerrymandered so no conservative candidates wind up on the ballot.

The public votes overwhelmingly for this socialism.

This has gone on since day one of "may issue" ccw in California.  Most of it is at a lower level. Santa Clara has taken it to a very high level of bribery for favors.

The SC DA's office started the investigation into bribery/extortion at the top of the sheriffs department with allegations that a CC permit required a substantial contribution to the sheriffs reelection campaign.  There is a grand jury empaneled that has been investigating the sheriffs office.

It depends on the county.  For a while some counties, Alpine comes to mind, would issue to anyone who lived in California.  Some capons with a Big D after their names got wind of it and amended the law saying only your county of residence could issue you a CCW.

 

Back in '04, I think that's right, when The Gav ordered San Francisco to issue marriage licenses for same sex couples no mater where they lived, and proclaimed that he was "protecting all civil rights for everyone"  I called the San Francisco Sheriff's Dept. and asked, because of The Gav's commitment to protecting all civil rights, what I had to do to get a CCW from the County of San Francisco.  Got passed around to a few people, and finally got told very bluntly that SF did NOT issue CCWs, that SF did NOT recognize CCWs from other counties but, out of "professional courtesy" would, if notified in writing ahead of time by the issuing authority, grudgingly not arrest someone who had a valid CCW from another county.

Sonoma County used to be one of the "You've got to be kidding!" counties. Unless you were a Big D grand high Poobah, or a major contributor to a Big D grand high Poobah, your chances of getting a CCW no matter what were about like the chance of a snowball surviving August in Death Valley on the ground at Badwater.  It's somewhat better now, but the "good cause" is still a fairly high bar.

Yes. A lot of rural counties operate closer to "shall issue" but still are legally "may issue". It can change when a county gets a new sheriff. Some counties accept plain self defense for your good cause but others are tougher.
