Joe Namath and Medicare

This thread is kinda ironic in that I was thinking about posting the same thing.

Actually, I was gonna post the question of how many Wire pards are sick and tired of whiney Joe siliciting

for medical stuff AND..... Tom Select trying to get folks to sell their houses.

I like Tom, but those advertisements get old.

..........Widder

The trickey thing about the Medicare Advantage plans is most are local coverage at the advertised rate is only good in the covered area.  Go to another state or area and the coverage is reduced or not existent.  Now, that said, each plan is very specific and one has to read the plan information closely.  These plans have PPO type, HMO type, Fee for service types Some require you us  their doctors and those doctors drop off the plan any time the want, you then have to choose a new doctor - hospital, etc.  Most require referrals for specialists, etc.

This comment is generalized and definitely not comprehensive.  Read the Medicare booklet the sen you and for gods sake do not agree to the electronic version, much easier to read the physical print.

Funny, I was just thinking the same thing the other day.  I'd seen the Joe Namath ads and I thought, "Yeah, maybe he didn't make enough money in his day and he needs Medicare".  But then the other night I saw an ad with another celeb--I want to say Danny Glover--- and I'm thinking, "Does he really need to use this plan?".

Just me thinking

Any of y'all ever called one of these medicare benefit plans that Joe Namath and other celebrities keep telling us about?  Sounds a lot like bait and switch, but I reckon it could be legit.

Kind of like Alex Trebek shilling for whole life insurance.  :o

They only show those commercials during the enrollment period.  On December 7th they stop.

They never stopped here!

Yeah! Mike Ditka does the same commercials.

I wonder how many folks would give these products a second look if me or Widder or some other cowboy was to be hawkin’ ‘em!

OH! YEAH!!  Those commercials run all year long ‘cause folks become eligible for Medicare every day.

Never used ‘em, but the last couple of years, me ‘n’ Schoolmarm have used a local outfit that performs the same service.  Thankfully, it has worked out fairly well.  Without the advantage plan, my medicines the last couple of years would have cost me $25,000.00 a year and that doesn’t cover the non hospital procedures that Medicare wouldn’t cover.

They don’t make you sign up and if there’s no local company that can give you a rundown of what’s out there, ya’ might do well to look at what they’re offering.

Yes, Danny Glover.  They don’t stay rich by spending it.

I think he’s shilling for term, not whole.

Not if it has an "investment" feature that the client can borrow from and can never be cancelled unless the client stops paying the premiums.

I spent a lot of years fighting whole life agents and helping people invest the savings on premiums.

These new plans where you get everything "free" and even money back are nothing but a rebirth of HMO concept. You can only go to the plans DR's. No choices there!

Even without Medicare most doctors around here belong to one hospital's medical group or another. The "family" doc never diagnoses anything without sending you to another doc or three within that group. Then after working through his checklist (I'm not joking, I saw the one my doc uses for diabetes patients!) and making sure he's redistributed your wealth through his group you might get treated. Took them close to 5 years to diagnose my wife's hiatal hernia and actually treat it. Of course she lost her gallbladder and had bunches of other tests done before the real problem was found.

Under today's Medicare and my secondary insurance, I can go to any Doctor who accepts Medicare. Under the plans that Namath (and other celebs) pitch , you could only go to the Doctors the plan approves and sends  you to.

They are actors getting paid to play a role.  Nothing more than that.  Do your own research and make your decisions accordingly.

I don't have a problem with the whole mess.  I don't even have a TV connection.  I sleep better not having any more BS to clutter my mind.

Of course they don't. They don't need medicare. And Tome Selleck isn't going to get a reverse mortgage on his ranch.

But people will listen to Hollywood celebrities when they tell them where to shop, what to buy or how to vote!

I have respect for those celebs who keep their mouths shut. But their aren't many.

NFLPA and other professional sports unions should make young players watch these Broadway Joe commercials for hours.

"See?  This is what could happen to you if you don't manage your money wisely while you're young!"

The absolute smartest thing I ever did or will ever do was stay in the military till retirement at 20 years. The inexpensive cost of a TriCare supplement plus the lost cost of prescriptions till you reach 65 is worth ANY BS that you have to put up with while in.

Once you reach 65, TriCare for Life kicks. Pay your Medicare part B and you have it made.

If you know anyone currently in or contemplating joining any branch of the military the cost savings in medical premiums after you retire at 20 easily out weighs putting up with all the BS.
