Sedalia Dave
SDJ Why the three extra men in the Centuria? Does the rounded shield represent their commander? What do the 5 rectangles at the top of the legion represent?

The oval shield was for the centurion. The five rectangles are the First Cohort, made up of five double centuries.

(Might even be true, but nonetheless it sounds good. )

Tex Jones, SASS 2263
Netflix has a show called "Barbarians", a six episode show dealing with the Teutoburg massacre of 9 AD. The dialogue is in German with subtitles and the show depicts a Roman camp and has a few scenes of a Roman legion in march order, which look to have been filmed from above possibly by a drone. BTW, the Romans lost.
