twelve mile REB 448 Posted October 23, 2020 A stocking cap, wool I would think, with a towel draped over his right ear to deflect any breeze,

Wyatt Earp SASS#1628L 145 Posted October 24, 2020 Knowing USG's penchant for likker, I'd say it's a night cap
Trailrider #896 1,722 Posted October 24, 2020 If you haven't read his memoirs, you should. Extremely well written, even with Mark Twain's help. More than likely, all those cigars he smoked was the death of hm. Stay well and safe, Pards!

Those commentators who say that America today is more divided than ever obviously are not students of the Civil War or Reconstruction. Well, that does not exactly set a high bar. Writing his memoirs really demonstrated the character of Grant (as if his wartime service was not enough). He was basically broke and he worked tirelessly on his memoirs while dying of cancer in an effort to make money to support his family after he was gone. He finished the work very shortly before he died in 1885. The memoir turned out to be a great success and, as he hoped the money it brought left his family financially secure.
