Sadly, that don' work everywhere.  :(

...The San Francisco Board of Supervisors has passed an ordinance that blunts the ability of rental property owners to increase rents by up to 7 percent on top of the annual allowable increases, to pay down rising property taxes and debt services...

...Although debt service and property tax pass-throughs have been utilized by large corporate landlords and property management companies, they also are used by “mom-and-pop” owners who rely on the pass-throughs to keep themselves solvent. The new law, then, disproportionally impacts these smaller rental businesses owned by predominately responsible, studious landlords who are being saddled with rising costs...

Had a friend in Berkeley. Yes, that Berkeley. Had apartments. Had tenants for 15 years never raising the rents.

This story is from a long time ago, from a long time ago.

Rent control passed, limiting increase to 4% a year. he decided no more 15 years without an increase.

He raised the rents 4% as soon as he legally could, and then raised them 4% each year, every year, to the day. It added up to quite a bit after a while.

Parent: What kind of tablet would you recommend as suitable for kids?

Me: Probably Benadryl, maybe Valium if you’re desperate. Really though, any sedative will do if you’re in a pinch.

Parent: I meant computer tablet.

Me: Oh, right. Obviously.
