Pat Riot
I think it's funny that Military.com and a few other sites have articles about the Navy's "birthday" but prominently depicting airplanes and carriers....As if the Navy is only all about aircraft. Hereare some more appropriate links: https://nationaldaycalendar.com/navy-birthday-october-13/ https://www.cnn.com/2019/10/13/us/us-navy-birthday-trnd/index.html https://www.uso.org/stories/2292-7-navy-facts

Waxahachie Kid #17017 L
While in Navy basic training, we were told that the pants were designed with bell bottoms, to make them easier to remove, should we end up in the water, for some reason. Also, that we could tie the hem of the pants, in a knot, and create a floatation device. During a swim exercise, we were instructed to kick off the pants, to show how easy it was. Clothing, when wet, is heaver, so they said it may be an advantage, especially if wounded, to remove them. The white cap, can also be removed, and unfolded, and used as a small flotation device. Again, this is what we were told in basic training. Bell bottom pants were in style, back when I was in the Navy, so all of us blended right in, when we were off the base, in our civilian clothes. Also, the bell bottoms have been a style, for the Navy, for many years. It is the distinctive uniform, and the military is all about tradition. Happy Birthday, Navy! Let our opponents beware. We can come for you in the air, on the sea, on the land, and under the sea. The men, and women, in the Navy, are the best of the best. "Eternal Father, strong to save, whose arm doth bind the restless wave. Who bidst the mighty ocean deep, it's own appointed limits keep. Oh hear us when we cry to Thee... For those in peril on the sea." W.K.
