Comments on the Wire that always confuse me in a funny way.

Every time I see one of these terms on the Wire, I have to pause and remember that they don't mean what I think they mean.

"Tang Site," does not refer to a place where you obtain orange flavored drink powder.

"WTC," does not stand for World Trade Center.

"CC" does not stand for Cubic Centemeters.  That's a good thing cuz I loathe the Metric System.

"ROC" is not a reference to a giant bird.

"AA" does not stand for Anti-Aircraft.  [Okay, I added that one to give me more items.]

"TB" is not short for teberculosus.   No, I can't spell it.  Nobody can.  That's why it's usually referred to as TB.

"Number 9" is not a reference to Ted Williams.  [Hey, I'm from New England.]

"WB" does not stand for Warner Brothers.

I guess I am easily confused.

Made up lexicon drives me crazy.   Boolits,  shotty, winey, and so on.  Now I'm running into "pew" or "pew, pew".  I see in in Facebook posts so far.  I may be wrong but I see it used as a substitute for gun or shooting.

You can buy t shirts from a well known and well respected online Second Amendment supporter if you'd like that say Pew Pew Life with an outline of a Glock or AR under it.

Acronyms and Abbreviations can be truly annoying.

I often wonder if people think that they have a word clock or perhaps a syllable counter imbedded in their head. Once they reach their allotted number BLAM!!!

They lose all cognitive ability or they die.

I search YouTube to find something interesting to watch.  I key in "gunsmith" and sort by latest upload.  What I get is page after page of video game renditions of fantasy guns. Not one video of anyone working on a real gun!

It's fast becoming a world I don't recognize or fit.

So, you are how old?

I kind of suspect that none of us have really "fit in" for a long time.

I start without cognitive abilities I will end without them

We’re I used to work we had a acronym for everything. It was so bad that at social gatherings if a couple of us started talking about work around anyone who didn’t work there they were totally lost . Was also hard on the new people. FNG :)

I worked in Aerospace after leaving the Navy. I thought the Navy was bad. At Hughes we had Acronym Dictionaries for each major program. Same acronyms, but they meant different things depending on the project.
The military started this trend / practice in WW2 so people wouldn’t know what other people were talking about for security reasons.

Pew?   As in Pepe Le?

No, “pew” as little children going “Pew, pew, pew” while firing toy guns.

Any adult male using the the term “Pew Pew” should be slapped or at the very least chastised. -_-

I see WTC and think What The Cr*p? Looks like getting around the foul-language rules. Then I remember I am here.

I do know BP is not the gas station, but TB? I think Throttle Body. Thinking some more... OK, I give up, what does it stand for here?

It took me a while to figure out “RNV” was Ruger New Vaquero. Or is the term”NRV”?.,,

There used to be a Glossary of Terms here on the Wire. I guess it is no more. It used to have all these terms, abbreviations and acronyms so people might be a little less confused.

back in the early days of the internet i learned a lot of the shortcuts - im not a phone texter or whatever the kids use these days so i dont get those at all , seems today we are all about the alphabet stuff but you may have to forgive me if i misinterpret the intent of your communication should you use that form of communication , im not real big on alphabet identification , even if i once in a while use my learned internet shortcuts

With all the texting and Twittering I get confused with all the abbreviations.  My wife’s aunt used to think “LOL” meant “Lots of Love”.  One time she got a text that a relative had died she texted back LOL.  Someone had to tell her what it really meant.

My oldest son sends text messages with some 9 key shortcuts.  I was really screwed up with "ATM" .  I kept thinking he was at a remote banking facility.  No.  At The Moment.

What annoys me are the other gun forums where people try to speak fluent TactiCool like they're a Navy SEAL or something, even if they're not. For example they don't use PMags in their ARs, they rock PMags in their ARs. Everything they own or use, they don't use it, they rock it.

Oh well. I guess if I were teleported back to the 1950s I'd be hearing young guys say a whole bunch of slick greaser talk I wouldn't understand either.

I haven't heard Ebonics for a good while.  Maybe that fad as died out?  Maybe I don't get around as much as I use to?

American black English regarded as a language in its own right rather than as a dialect of standard English.
