J-BAR #18287
Both versions are better than most of the stuff Hollywood churns out. Mag 7 #1& #2, Singin’ In The Rain, Taylor & Burton’s Taming of the Shrew, The Quiet Man and the Cavalry trilogy, The Wild Bunch, American Graffiti. They never get old. You have excellent taste. Rye Miles #13621
I liked it a lot! I never liked Yul Brynner in that role. Denzel is way better IMHO

Utah Bob #35998
I didn’t think I’d like it. But I did. But it’s very hard to compare these two films made so many years apart, given the major societal changes. I judge them on their own merits, separately. watab kid
thats the only way you can really view them , in the era they were produced , same with all the "star is born" versions and some others i cant recall now but the remakes are that ... a remake not intended to be the original remade really , i cannot imagine what a remake of "gone with the wind" might look like tho , i still love that movie
