Watching Gallipoli, the miniseries

The Rising Sun has changed over the years and there is in fact seven versions of the badge from 1902 til the present.

 

I will try and post here the full collection for you.

 

At Gallipoli they were probably wearing the 4th version which came out in 1904 (the next was 1949

First (bottom) three were king’s crown, more recent for the queen.

True. Casualties were about even. Slightly more dead on the Turk side. A disastrous mess any way you look at it.

The drip rifles were set up to cover the last night of the retreat from ANZAC Cove.

 

As the last troops were leaving a trench they would punch a small hole into the top tin and some time later the rifle would fire, there was no one left to reload it.
