That's really sad enjoyed my visit.  Lots of sets that seem familiar.

Refurbish - Encourage film making to return after COVID - Provide low cost/ No cost filming locations for indie, college, low budget films - Bring in (after COVID) concert venues/ events/ gatherings that attract crowds and are maybe able to utilize both open spaces and / or buildings (car shows, ren faires, wild west arts, melodrama gatherings, etc.) - Real vs Reel museums and living history displays - Put in a spectator friendly shooting range and move Bordertown back to Tucson - The SASS staff just got displaced from Founders Ranch/ Move the SASS offices and EOT.

According to the article - rent was $50k annual - that seems imminently doable with any promotion or visitor count as well.  Especially if any retail or office space could be created or further established within the grounds.

Just a few quick ideas and there are a myriad of folks smarter than me.

I posted earlier in the summer how Covid 19 killed a little historic town of Arrow Rock, Missouri.   The had a an arts, crafts, frontier reenactment,  etc festival every month.  A live theater that seated 400 that performed twice a day. A restaurant and several deli and ice cream shops,  etc.  Well,  they stopped the festivals until August.   Some businesses tried to hold out.  Then in July,  the promoters running the show decided to not have the festival the rest of the year.  That killed it.

Wow! That's sad news. I am happy to say that I first saw the original years ago and have been there also since then.

Lots of memories from the past. I do hope that a change of minds will happen.

Thanks to all who were involved in Old Tucson & God Bless.

Very sad.

But WHO wants their Covid restrictions to never go away.  So sad

So viscous.

Pray for our nation.

Vote for those who oppose this sort of socialistic dictatorship.

Sad! I remember my dad taking me to old Tucson in the 70s when he was stationed at  ft. Huachuca, then me and the wife went the Saturday before it burned,  and taking my son several times a year when we moved to Tucson. Hopeful that someone (county or investor) opens it back up too many memories.

That really sucks! We went there on the way from Tombstone up to Winter Range this year and had a wonderful time!

It is very sad. My first visit to my parents in Green Valley, they took us there and Tombstone and we went and visited every time we went back!  Unfortunately last year when I was taking care of my mother before she past and then a month afterward my wife and I talked about it but didn’t go. Kicking myself now. It has always been my fantasy to win Powerball and the buy it and build back some of the buildings from the John Wayne movies that burned and get craft vendors to open stores like at Tubac.

After reading the comments by the chief deputy county administrator, I have a feeling it's going to get all torn down and replaced with a park/playground for kids and baby strollers, soccer fields, a small museum/display on snakes, cacti and lizards, and a large parking lot; nothing of any real value or needed...

On “Inspiration” channel, 244, is The Legend of 5  Mile Cave, also can rent on Amazon, made in 2019.  I am willing to bet it is filmed at Old Tucson Studios!  And even more humorous is that one of the characters is shooting a Big Boy!

Too sad indeed; I met my bride in Tucson and had a wonderful time at Old Tucson on several occasions prior to the "fire".  I want to go back again to promote the SASS sport somehow!!!

Oh, go back and read the original post link now, the updated article now begins:

ditor's Note: This story has been updated with additional information regarding the closure from Old Tucson.

Old Tucson, the Western-themed attraction that was the filming location of more than 400 feature-films and TV shows, is extending its closure indefinitely, with its future to be determined by Pima County.
