bgavin
Here in CA, I have to be careful how I travel to the range. The gun/ammo transport laws are so nuts, I don't want a felony charge for a burned-out taillight. Guns and ammo have to be locked, and in the trunk away from the driver. This means riding around in the bed of my truck... not my idea of a good time. I don't have locks for ammo cases or rifle bags. I do have a Harbor Freight lockable box for my revolvers. I put the ammo can in the bed, guns in the extended cab. I have no doubt whatsoever, that an activist cop could make a felony charge up if he felt like it. Locked, unlocked, separated, or two shotguns in a double carry case... who knows. The way to win.. is to not play... and not get pulled over at all. I didn't know either; so, I Googled "what is a is a pretext stop by a police officer." "Pretextual stops are a subset of traffic stops deemed constitutional by the Supreme Court in Whren v. United States (1996). They occur when a police officer wishes to investigate a motorist on other suspicions, generally related to drug possession, and uses a minor traffic infringement as a pretext to stop the driver." I've been guilty of saying things from time to time that I could've said better. Evidently, I'd been guilty of doing so a LOT around the now-former-Missus-Hardpan. It's amazing how offensive "Good Morning!" can be to some... DAMN but lawyers can be 'spensive.
