A gun cart accessory project...

Recommended Posts

Well, I threw my back out (again) and have some time to kill.

I bought a used gun cart, but it didn't have a box on the front for ammo and whatnot, so I was using an ammo can that I had.

Ya know the deal, it worked, but it wasn't cowboy.

So, this is my project.

I cut up a cheap Wally World door mat for the bottom.

Oops, should've measured that 4th time.

Reconstruction and some "crate" features.

And this is where I'm at now. I have to finish the matt clear coats and install the hardware.

Love the “ACME Practice Bombs” touch. :D

Wiley and I share a kinship and Acme has been an ongoing theme throughout my years.

Truth be told, keeping me moving has been helpful in getting things back where they need to be. I'm not sure I can get to the match next weekend as strapping on the gun belt isn't what I would call comfortable, but I ain't walking like Igor now.

OK, so I'm kinda stuck on an idea for a latch for the lid.

This isn't in my wheelhouse like @Yul Lose, but I would like a little more style than a magnetic cabinet latch.

Anyone got any ideas?

Inspiration from an original?

I must admit my shame and admit that I didn't even think to see what originals did.

Maybe something resembling a grenade pin?

Or tie it down with a “fuse”?

Or make a little stick of dynamite to secure a hasp.

The wooden cases that artillery shells are transported in had a vintage looking brass hasp on them. I will look and see if I can find a pic.

Nice. I always thought those were more expensive.

How about hanging Wile E. Coyote on there?

Oh, Mr. Coyote will get representation.

I forgot to add the pic of my pal Wile E.

That's a decal made from my tattoo. I'm thinking of having the artwork changed to a crossed rifle and

shotgun....:D

So did I.

So now I've got three ideas for an ammo box if I decide to build another one -- the historical chain the hidden release, or your 'red button' idea (which I do like).

Guess it will depend on how 'period' I want it to look.
