I have to wonder what the issue was to which this is the solution.

Room clearing I guess.

That’s so weird that I would like to fire one just to see how it works. I would guess it would be like firing 18 NAA .22 revolvers all at the same time. Probably get 800-900 FPS out of them.

Stick it through the door, pull the trigger, kick door open and hose everything down with the whole mag. Repeat as necessary.

Thanks.  Makes sense, I guess.  They would tumble and spread quickly.
But seems like a flechette for the M203 would work better.

I’m thinking that’s no longer in the US inventory. I could be wrong

M203 actually.

Correct, all I ever had was the M-79 and what a hoot it was.

I found a grenade launcher for my evil black rifle but 40mm ammo costs more per round than my house. Now I can afford to shoot "something" out of it.

Here is where one can buy these. They are 40mm. If they were 37mm it would be easier to get the launcher.

Apparently they are out of stock. These units are unavailable.

Their website is goofy and info is lacking.

Blooper.  I liked the Mk.something or other 40mm full auto. Saw one in use at Aberdeen when I was there and it was very impressive.

Mk 19

We called the M79 the Wombat Gun

As far as I know, the military still maintains a 40mm buckshot round for use in the M203. It's intent was for close quarters combat with the M79, but became less necessary with the M203. Still, it remains in military inventory.

Yep, for me, the Mk 19 is even more fun to fire than an M2. Whenever I would get the opportunity, I would jump on it and go. Pretty sure I giggled every time. Not the same as firing a howitzer, but I got to see where the rounds impacted! No, I never got to fire direct fire with a howitzer. Saw it done though!

I'm glad to see this whiz-bang gadget is remembered by people other than me.  I saw several of them in 'Nam mounted on the cupola pintle of XM-706-E2 LAAVs.  Never saw one fired over there, though.

Direct fire for when you absolutely positively have to make something go away

The M79 (Wombat gun) wouldn't be big enough to take you out Wallaby.
